The Pennsylvania Commission on Judicial Independence is seeking a motivated and civic-minded university student to serve as a summer intern. This position offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of law, education, and community engagement. The Intern will conduct research, help develop and implement social media strategies, coordinate outreach events, and collaborate with community partners and members of the judiciary to promote public education initiatives focused on judicial independence and the role of law in a democratic society. The legal intern will report to Judge Mary Janes Bowes.

Job Duties

  • Develop and implement a strategic social media plan to increase awareness and engagement across platforms
  • Create written and visual content highlighting educational programming, community partnerships, and rule of law initiatives.
  • Assist in planning and coordinating community outreach events, including educational forums, panel discussions, and public programs
  • Communicate and coordinate with community partners, educator, civics organizations, and judicial participants
  • Conduct research on judicial independence initiatives and best practices across the United States to support and promote civics education on the rule of law and judicial independence
  • Track and evaluate outreach metrics and provide recommendations for growth and impact
  • Perform related work as required.

 

Qualifications

  • Current undergraduate or graduate student (preferred fields: communications, marketing, political science, pre-law or law, journalism, or related disciplines)
  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Experience with social media platforms and basic analytic tools
  • Excellent organizational and strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to interact professionally with community leaders and members of the judiciary
  • Interest in civic education, judicial independence and the rule of law
  • Satisfactory criminal background check required.

 

Internship Information

  • The duration of the internship is a maximum of 10 weeks, 35 hours per week.
  • The hourly rate is $19, without benefits.
