Landscape Maintenance Technician

OBJECTIVE / ACCOUNTABILITY

 

Perform routine landscape and grounds maintenance at Virgil Nursery with consistency and attention to detail. This role helps ensure the property remains safe, well-maintained, and visually appealing in support of daily nursery operations. Your work plays an important part in maintaining a functional environment that reflects the quality and standards of our organization.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Landscape Maintenance

  • Perform routine grounds maintenance including mowing, weed whipping, and weed control.
  • Maintain mulched areas through edging and mulch application as directed.
  • Carry out pruning tasks as assigned by the Nursery Manager.
  • Maintain ditches and pond edges and assist with erosion repair.
  • Support planting projects including stock beds, simple display areas, and natural areas under direction.
  • Assist with fertilization and irrigation of planted areas as directed.

Planning & Coordination

  • Receive daily work priorities from the Nursery Manager.
  • Communicate observed landscape issues or areas needing attention to the Nursery Manager.
  • Coordinate work timing with other nursery activities to avoid operational conflicts.

Equipment & Facilities

  • Operate tractors, mowers, skid steers, and related landscape equipment safely.
  • Maintain tools and equipment in proper working condition.
  • Assist with snow removal and general facility upkeep as needed.
  • Support improvements to routine landscape maintenance practices when directed.

Safety

  • Perform all work in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Follow all safety procedures and use required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Maintain awareness of surroundings in active nursery production environments.

Personal Growth & Team Support

  • Develop skills necessary to perform assigned duties effectively.
  • Participate constructively as part of the Production Team.
  • Assist with landscape or production work at other nurseries as needed.

 

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS 

 

  • Ability to operate landscape and grounds maintenance equipment
  • Willingness and ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions

 

EDUCATION AND / OR EXPERIENCES

 

  • Experience with basic landscape maintenance preferred

 

SKILLS AND ABILITIES 

 

  • Experience with basic landscape maintenance preferred
  • Ability to perform the physical demands of the position, including prolonged standing and walking, frequent bending and squatting, and lifting and carrying materials up to 50 pounds
