8th-Grade Math Long Term Substitute

8th-Grade Mathematics Long-Term Substitute at Wayland Middle School 

The Middle School Teacher creates a welcoming, equitable, and inclusive classroom environment that supports students’ academic, social, and emotional growth. The teacher develops and implements learning experiences aligned with Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and district standards, fostering curiosity, a sense of belonging, and high expectations for all students. This role collaborates with colleagues, families, and district leadership to support student success and address systemic barriers to equitable opportunities.

Duties and Responsibilities (Not limited to): 

  • Create a classroom environment that promotes belonging, equity, and student growth

     
  • Embrace student diversity and ensure equitable learning opportunities

     
  • Provide appropriate academic and SEL instruction guided by Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and district standards

     
  • Monitor student understanding and adjust instruction, materials, and assessments as needed

     
  • Stay current in content-area knowledge and pedagogy

     
  • Hold high expectations for all students and provide appropriate support

     
  • Participate in team, grade-level, PLC, school, and district initiatives

     
  • Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum, assessments, and individual student needs

     
  • Work with school counseling, special education, ESL, administration, and clinical staff as needed

     
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with families/caregivers to support student development

     
  • Work with school and district leadership to reduce systemic barriers

     
  • Perform other duties as assigned



 

Qualifications:

  • Citizenship, residency, or valid work visa required

     
  • Successful completion of Criminal Records Check (C.O.R.I.), Sexual Offender Record Check (S.O.R.I.), and fingerprinting

     
  • Knowledge of pre/adolescent academic, social, and emotional development

     
  • Strong foundation in student-centered teaching and pedagogy for heterogeneous classrooms

     
  • Strong content-area expertise

     
  • Working knowledge of Massachusetts Standards-Based curriculum, UDL principles, and SEL supports

     
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, belonging, and social justice

     
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills

     
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment and meet time-sensitive deadlines

     
  • Bilingual skills desirable; Spanish bilingual candidates strongly encouraged



 

Education and Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred

     
  • MA DESE Licensure or eligibility 5–8 in applicable field; dual licensure in Special Education or ESL highly desirable

     
  • SEI Endorsement required

     
  • Experience teaching in a diverse public middle school preferred

     
  • Experience with students with disabilities/special abilities and English language learners preferred

     
  • Experience with Google Suite and PowerSchool preferred; training available

     
  • Alternative degrees or experience may be considered at the discretion of the Superintendent
