Ground Penetrating Radar Operator

Position Title: Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) Operator – Structures & Utility Location

The ideal candidate will have experience performing GPR surveys for structural verification, concrete analysis, and underground utility detection and mapping. This role requires strong technical knowledge, field experience, and the ability to interpret and document subsurface findings accurately.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Conduct Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) surveys for structural investigations including concrete slab analysis, bridge decks, post-tension cables, reinforcing steel, and structural components
  • Perform subsurface utility locating and mapping including identification of metallic and non-metallic utilities
  • Assist with Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) investigations in accordance with industry standards
  • Interpret GPR data and prepare field documentation and survey reports
  • Mark and map located utilities for construction and engineering design teams
  • Coordinate field activities with project managers, engineers, and client representatives
  • Operate and maintain GPR and related geophysical equipment
  • Assist with bridge deck condition assessments and pavement investigations
  • Follow all company safety policies and industry best practices while performing field operations

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1-3 years of experience operating Ground Penetrating Radar equipment is preferred, past work or education experience will be considered
  • Experience in utility locating and subsurface investigations preferred 
  • Experience with structural scanning (rebar, post-tension cables, conduit, void detection) preferred
  • Familiarity with Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) standards (ASCE 38) preferred
  • Ability to interpret GPR data and prepare technical reports
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites throughout the Southeast
  • Strong communication and documentation skills in English are required

Preferred Certifications

  • NULCA Certified Utility Locator (or equivalent)
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety Training
  • Experience with electromagnetic utility locating equipment (EM locators)
  • Experience with bridge deck and pavement condition investigations

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Ability to lift and transport survey equipment over 50 lbs.
  • Ability to walk construction sites and structural facilities for extended periods
