Construction Project Management Intern

About the Role

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Construction Project Management Intern to join our team for the Summer. This internship offers hands-on exposure to active commercial construction projects and the opportunity to work directly with experienced Project Managers and Superintendents. Students will gain experience with contract administration, scheduling, budgeting, quality control, safety, and project closeout.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS / Learning Objectives

Contract Administration

  • Read and understand contract documents, drawings, and specifications.
  • Attend Owner and Subcontractor meetings; assist in preparing and distributing meeting minutes.
  • Support preparation and review of Owner payment applications.
  • Assist with managing RFIs and shop drawing submittals to maintain schedule compliance.
  • Monitor subcontractor performance to ensure contractual compliance.
  • Assist in documenting, pricing, and processing change orders and extra work.
  • Support project buyout activities and cost control efforts.
  • Conduct periodic audits of field documentation to ensure company standards are met.

 

Project Planning & Execution (Means and Methods)

  • Assist in developing project execution plans in collaboration with the Superintendent.
  • Learn how construction means and methods affect productivity, quality, cost, and safety.
  • Support coordination between field operations and project management.

 

Scheduling

  • Assist in developing and maintaining project schedules.
  • Support documentation and distribution of schedule updates.
  • Monitor subcontractor and vendor progress against schedule milestones.
  • Participate in identifying and implementing recovery plans when delays occur.

 

Budget & Financial Oversight

  • Assist in identifying solutions to mitigate negative budget deviations.
  • Support review of field purchase orders and invoices for compliance with budget and company policy.
  • Gain exposure to cost tracking, forecasting, and margin analysis.

 

Quality Assurance & Client Satisfaction

  • Understand and support HICAPS’ commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Ensure contract quality standards are incorporated into subcontracts and agreements.
  • Maintain professionalism in all correspondence, documentation, and reporting.
  • Assist with punch list development and project closeout procedures.
  • Support inspections, testing, and regulatory compliance efforts.
  • Assist in completion of closeout and warranty documentation.

 

Safety

  • Support and promote corporate safety initiatives.
  • Participate in proactive jobsite safety observations.
  • Assist in ensuring OSHA compliance in coordination with the Corporate Safety Manager.
  • Participate in safety training and post-incident review processes when applicable.

 

Administrative & Additional Support

  • Become familiar with company contract administration procedures.
  • Assist with project documentation, record keeping, and data organization.
  • Support efforts to streamline internal processes and improve document management systems.
