We produce youth‑centered news features, creator‑focused stories, digital explainers, community spotlights, and reporting that blends traditional journalism with modern, social‑first storytelling. What You’ll Do

📝 Digital Reporting & Story Development

  • Research, pitch, and write articles for Zoo Media’s digital news channels
  • Cover youth culture, creative industries, education, digital media, and community stories
  • Produce timely reporting that is accurate, engaging, and mission‑aligned
  • Develop story angles that highlight youth voices, creator impact, and emerging trends

🎤 Interviews & Field Reporting

  • Conduct interviews with creators, youth leaders, educators, and community partners
  • Gather quotes, background information, and supporting details for features and news stories
  • Build relationships with sources and practice ethical, youth‑centered reporting

📣 Multimedia Journalism

  • Support content for newsletters, blogs, social platforms, and digital publications
  • Assist with short‑form video scripts, podcast segments, or livestream notes
  • Learn how to adapt reporting across formats and platforms

🔍 Research, Fact‑Checking & Editorial Support

  • Verify information, cross‑check sources, and ensure accuracy in all published work
  • Assist editors with story prep, background research, and content organization
  • Participate in editorial meetings, pitch sessions, and collaborative reviews

🌐 Youth‑Centered Storytelling

  • Help shape narratives that reflect the experiences, challenges, and creativity of young people
  • Contribute to community‑driven stories that uplift diverse perspectives
  • Support initiatives that make journalism accessible, inclusive, and empowering

You’ll Learn To

  • Apply core journalism principles across digital and multimedia formats
  • Conduct interviews, gather sources, and build compelling narratives
  • Write for newsletters, blogs, social media, and youth‑centered publications
  • Adapt reporting for short‑form, long‑form, and interactive storytelling
  • Use AI‑assisted tools for research, transcription, and content development
  • Work within editorial workflows, deadlines, and collaborative production cycles

Requirements

  • Strong writing skills and interest in journalism, reporting, or digital storytelling
  • Ability to research, synthesize information, and communicate clearly
  • Curiosity about youth culture, creative industries, and community‑centered stories
  • Comfort working in a collaborative, remote environment
  • Pursuing a degree in Journalism, Communications, English, Media, Creative Writing, or a related field (preferred but not required)

Availability for virtual meetings:

  • Mondays @ 9:00 AM MST
  • Wednesdays @ 10:00 AM MST
  • Fridays @ 8:00 AM MST
  • SkillBridge participants: Thursdays @ 9:00 AM MST

Bonus Skills (Not Required, But Valued)

  • Experience with blogging, campus journalism, or digital publications
  • Familiarity with AP style or editorial guidelines
  • Interest in multimedia reporting (audio, video, social content)
  • Comfort using AI‑assisted writing or research tools
