Core Cutter
2026 Field Season: Core Cutter
Piton Exploration is hiring core cutters for the 2026 Alaska field season. Core cutters support mineral exploration drilling programs by processing drill core in remote field camps. This role is hands‑on and detail‑focused, and it plays an important part in making sure geological data is accurate and usable.
This position is a good fit for current students, recent graduates, or early‑career workers who are interested in geology, geotechnical work, or field operations and want practical experience working on Alaska exploration projects.
What You’ll Be Doing
Core cutters work closely with logging geologists and field crews. Typical duties include:
- Cutting drill core using masonry saws according to geologist instructions
- Organizing core boxes so samples stay in the correct order and orientation
- Labeling, tracking, and cataloging samples to maintain data quality
- Stacking and moving core boxes and supplies (up to ~50 lbs)
- Helping with basic daily maintenance of saws and power tools
- Keeping simple daily production or progress notes for the project geologist
Work Environment
This is remote Alaska field work. Core cutters typically work in core shacks or covered work areas at fly‑in camps. The job involves standing for long periods, working around saws and power tools, and paying close attention to safety and detail. Crews work long days during active drilling, and teamwork and communication are important.
What We’re Looking For
- Comfortable doing repetitive, detail‑oriented work
- Able to lift and move up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods
- Willing to follow safety procedures and wear required PPE
- Able to take clear technical instructions and communicate with the logging team
- Interest in geology, drilling, or field operations is a plus
Experience with power tools, masonry saws, or mechanical equipment is helpful but not required.
Training & Supervision
Core cutters work under experienced geologists and receive on‑the‑job training in:
- Core cutting and handling procedures
- Sample organization and QA/QC
- Field safety practices
- Remote camp operations
