Housing Policy Intern

Description

The City of Sacramento Planning Division is seeking an intern to support the Housing Team within Long Range Planning. The Housing Team is responsible for implementing policies and programs from the City’s adopted Housing Element and advancing strategies that expand housing production and affordability.

 

The intern will gain hands-on experience in municipal planning and housing policy. Interns may assist with a variety of tasks, including:

  • Conducting policy and best-practice research related to housing and land use
  • Assisting with data analysis and preparation of tables, charts, and maps
  • Supporting preparation of reports, presentations, and other written materials
  • Assisting with community engagement activities and stakeholder coordination
  • Creating graphics, summaries, or outreach materials
  • Attending and taking notes at internal meetings, community meetings, and public hearings

 

Responsibilities will be tailored to the intern’s interests, skills, and experience, with opportunities to learn about housing policy implementation, planning processes, and local government decision-making.

 

Eligibility:

  • Must be under 30 years old (due to requirements of grant funded position)
  • Must be a resident of the City of Sacramento (due to requirements of grant funded position)

 

Qualifications: 

  • Strong writing, research, and quantitative or qualitative data analysis skills
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse communities and stakeholder groups
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Familiarity with graphic design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite or Canva
  • Interest in housing policy, land use planning, and equitable community development

 

Preferred Majors: 

  • City and Regional Planning; Urban Studies; Urban Planning; Community Development; Public Policy; Sociology, Geography or other related fields focused on people, place, and equitable development.
