About the Role
We are seeking a motivated Materials Engineering student to join our dynamic start-up team. This role involves hands-on work in materials characterization, development, and process optimization. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to extract insights from complex material interactions and interface behavior, applying advanced analytical techniques to support R&D and manufacturing teams.
What you'll do
• Performing advanced materials characterization to support design qualification, root cause analysis, and material validation across polymers, adhesives, metals, ceramics, and composites.
• Developing standardized test methods, protocols, and documentation for both in-house and vendor-based testing; contributing to internal knowledge libraries and characterization databases.
• Engaging with external labs and vendors to scope and manage outsourced testing, ensuring data quality, sample handling, and timeline alignment.
• Supporting failure analysis (FA) workflows for field or test failures, including delamination, corrosion, contamination, fracture, or other degradation failure modes.
Who you are
• BS degree in Materials Science or a related field.
Ideal candidate has
• Hands-on experience in materials characterization and chemical analysis
• Strong materials science fundamentals and understanding of materials structure-process-properties
• Strong problem-solving skills and adaptability in a fast-paced environment
Onsite Expectations
Because the team is building a physical product, we expect this person to be onsite in our San Jose office 5 days a week.
