Study Abroad and Exchange Peer Advisor Internship 

Internship Description: 
This position’s primary duty is to support Study Abroad & Exchange (SAE) students with program and/or location decisions, applications, visas, and program-specific information under the guidance and support of the SAE Coordinator. This position is open to all students who have studied abroad or away through Chico State SAE programs (CSU IP, Direct Exchange, Faculty-Led Programs, USAC, AIFS and/or NSE) or have had a similar educational international experience, and who will continue to be enrolled at Chico State during the duration of the role. This position will closely collaborate with team SAE, which includes professional and student staff, Marketing & Outreach (M&O) interns and other Peer Advisors. This is an unpaid internship. Students must complete the required hours—45 hours per unit, up to 3 units (maximum 135 hours)—to earn academic credit. You must enroll in INED 389 if you are accepted. 

Responsibilities: 

Stays informed on all Chico State program updates (CSU IP, Direct Exchange, Faculty-Led Programs, USAC, AIFS and/or NSE) to provide accurate information to students and the campus community. 

Supports team SAE in answering and guiding students with inquiries regarding study abroad and exchange programs and processes. 

Holds regular office hours, attends SAE and M&O meetings, and is occasionally available for evening and weekend events or projects. 

Collaborates with the SAE/International Education and Global Engagement staff and student team members on marketing and outreach efforts by attending and leading (in-person/hybrid and virtual) info sessions, classroom presentations, fairs, workshops, orientations, tabling, campus events, podcast development, and relatable duties.  

Participates and collaborates with the International Wildcat Program (IWP) and other international student clubs to foster inclusive cross-cultural spaces.

Requirements: 

Currently enrolled as a Chico State student. 

Holds regular office hours, attends SAE and M&O meetings, and is occasionally available for evening and weekend events or projects. 

Leads with professionalism and compassion, has a passion for global, cross-cultural opportunities and is equity minded.  

Basic administrative skills (e.g. typing, basic computer applications, Microsoft Office Suite, Zoom, and similar programs).  

Strong organizational, problem-solving, and prioritization skills, with attention to detail, reliability, flexibility, and has the ability to work independently or collaboratively. 

Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills. 

Ability to maintain composure during busy periods, and a willingness to be flexible in order to accommodate unexpected challenges and changes, during both the planning and execution of daily tasks and events. 

Successful applicants are expected to start in early August 2026 to attend a student employee orientation with International Education and Global Engagement and SAE (successful applicants will be provided with updates).

Preferred: 

Currently enrolled Chico State student with at least two semesters remaining, who has participated in a Chico State study abroad or exchange program or gained international or domestic immersive experience through work, volunteer, or internship opportunities.
