Agricultural Technician
Position: Agricultural Technician in Rice (with a focus on weed and pest management)
Position percentage: 75%variable (30 hours per week guaranteed, and if fundingallows, the positionwill work up to 40 hours per week)
Start Date: May 1 (flexible)
Office and program location: Yuba City, CA (with travelto field sites as necessary)
Hours: General hours8am to 5pm, plus eveningsand weekends are required, as needed.
Position summary:
Under supervision, sets up and maintains equipment. Assists in the design, set up and maintenance of plots. Prepares samples for analysis. Provides analysis data to supervisor in a variety of reports. Creates spreadsheets, reports and newsletters for research data using MS Office Word and Excelprograms. Maintain laboratory equipment and suppliesrecords.
More specific tasks:
- set up experimental plots in fields
- conduct pesticideapplications, evaluations, samplings, and monitoring, under supervision or independently
- data entry, summary, and preliminary analysis
- aid in the organization and planning of outreach activities
- maintain detailedrecord of activities
- process plant, soil, and insect samplesin the lab
- participate in maintaining social media accounts
- develop methodsto conduct field and laboratory work efficiently
Requirements: Background (degreeor experience) in plant science,biology, or agriculture preferred.
