French Terminology Intern (Summer 2026)

This internship supports the National Headquarters (NHQ) Communications (COMM) department, specifically the Multicultural Communications team. This is a 100% virtual opportunity. Interns will have a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the mission of the American Red Cross, utilizing their knowledge and experience while also gaining valuable insights and learning experiences from the organization.

 

Job Description:

  • Identify key terms, drafting clear definitions, and ensuring French and English entries are accurate and complete.
  • Research and provide guidance to translators and editors to support clarity and consistency. 
  • Contribute to improving French and English glossaries to train custom machine translation tools.
  • Use terminology systems, Microsoft 365, CAT tools, and related language platforms. 
  • Review translation memories and final files to confirm preferred terms and style guidelines are correctly applied. 
  • Assist in testing new workflows, tools, and systems that support the modernization of our translation and communication processes. 

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate senior studying French, Linguistics, Philology, Translation & Interpretation, Localization, or a related field. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365, terminology management systems, CAT tools (like XTM), or machine translation platforms. 
  • Familiar with terminology extraction tools, concordance tools, or corpus analysis.
  • Eager to collaborate, ask questions, learn new tools, and support projects that shape how we connect with French-speaking communities. 
  • Follow current public health and American Red Cross volunteer policies.

Length of Appointment: June - August

 

Time Commitment: 3-5 hours per week, during business hours

 

Training Requirements:

  • American Red Cross Orientation and mandatory training
  • Communications Department onboarding and training 
  • School House sessions
