Environmental Technician Intern
Robert E. Lee & Associates, Inc., a northeast Wisconsin full-service engineering consulting firm, specializing in civil and environmental engineering, surveying, and natural resources services, is seeking a motivated applicant for a temporary summer intern position to support our environmental compliance team. This is a full-time summer internship, with potential opportunity to continue part-time during the school year.
Job Title: Environmental Technician – Summer Intern
What You’ll Gain
- Hands-on experience with environmental field sampling and compiling data
- Exposure to environmental consulting and regulatory programs
- Experience supporting site investigations and remediation projects
- Opportunity to work alongside experienced geologists, environmental scientists, and engineers
- Operate field equipment including groundwater pumps, landfill gas meters, soil/air sampling instruments, the right candidate will have possible exposure to operating a Geoprobe rig — skills that are directly transferable to future environmental career
Responsibilities and Tasks may include, but are not limited to:
- Assist with landfill monitoring programs, including groundwater and landfill gas monitoring
- Assist with soil, groundwater, surface water, and air sampling
- Support environmental site investigations at industrial, commercial, and landfill properties
- Maintain field documentation including sampling logs and monitoring well data records
- Assist with equipment setup, calibration, and maintenance
- Support preparation of technical reports and environmental data documentation
Education
- Currently pursuing Civil Engineering with Environmental Studies emphasis, Environmental Engineering, Geology or Hydrogeology Bachelor’s Degree Program or a Technical School Associate Degree Program is desired.
Skills and Abilities include, but are not limited to:
- Ability to communicate and interact well with clients, agencies, and other staff.
- Strong organizational and documentation skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to read maps, plans, and technical documents
- Ability to walk over uneven terrain and active project sites
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds of field equipment
- Valid driver’s license and good driving record required
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Must be authorized to work in the United States (Robert E. Lee & Associates, Inc. does not sponsor applicants for work visas)
Working Environment
- Combination of outdoor field work in varying weather conditions and office work
- Travel to and from project locations
- Overtime may be required at times to complete projects
