Internship Term: June 2026 – August 2026 (Flexible Based On School Schedules)

 

SUMMARY

The San Diego Center for Children is seeking an Intern to support the effectiveness, accuracy, and integrity of financial and operational data that enables high-quality mental and behavioral health services across the organization.This paid internship is designed for a detail-oriented and analytical graduate student interested in gaining hands-on experience in finance, budgeting, and financial reporting within a mission-driven healthcare environment. The intern will work closely with members of the Finance team and collaborate with program leaders, operations staff, and administrative departments to support financial data accuracy, reporting processes, and organizational decision-making. Through this experience, the intern will develop practical skills in financial analysis, reporting, budgeting, and data management, while gaining insight into how financial operations support program delivery, compliance, and strategic growth.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Other Duties May be Assigned)

  • Take primary responsibility for designing and executing a capstone-style project that delivers actionable insights to support financial performance or operational effectiveness
  • Develop financial models, forecasts, and scenario analyses to support strategic initiatives
  • Conduct program profitability and cost allocation analyses
  • Generate reporting and ad-hoc analyses to identify financial trends, risks, and opportunities
  • Create and maintain data visualization dashboards using Excel, Power BI, or similar tools
  • Support preparation of board-level financial presentations and strategic materials
  • Assist with budgeting, long-range financial planning, and productivity tracking
  • Conduct research on behavioral health reimbursement trends, policy changes, and market dynamics
  • Collaborate with program leadership and administrative departments to gather financial insights
  • Contribute to the optimization of financial processes, reporting workflows, and internal control

 

PHYSICAL & WORK ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS

  • Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, speak, and use standard office equipment
  • Ability to lift up to 15 pounds
  • Work performed in a professional office environment with normal noise levels

Qualifications

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Currently enrolled in an MBA or related graduate Business Program
  • Strong financial modeling and advanced Excel capabilities
  • Demonstrated analytical thinking and problem-solving ability
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Must successfully complete required background clearance

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

  • Concentration in Finance, Strategy, Healthcare Management, or Analytics preferred
  • Experience with Data Visualization or Business Intelligence Tools preferred
