Landscape Horticulturalist Intern
OBJECTIVE / ACCOUNTABILITY
To achieve professional and personal goals through the company while assisting the Product Manager with the maintenance, construction and development of the Sales Display Gardens at the St. Charles facility.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Garden and landscape maintenance of the Sales Display Gardens for the St. Charles office and related areas
- See that all plants in display beds are properly labeled at all times.
- Be responsible for producing labels and managing label system.
- Work alongside the landscape crew as needed and directed.
Make our Display Gardens an Active and Successful Sales Education Tool
- Train our staff to be confident in hosting garden tours.
- In collaboration with sales representatives and management, and at their request, host tours for customers to promote our plants and products.
- Collaborate and contribute to marketing team creating standard presentations of gardens for frequent and targeted customer audiences.
- Support sales rep or sales team organized events such as tours, education and / or lunch and learns.
- Maintain connections with key partner public gardens and planting / garden design figures.
- Promote welcoming, learning and collaborative outlook with customers, universities, colleges, botanic gardens, students and industry associations such as ILASLA, IGIA and ILCA ---- as well as with all our visitors.
- Participate in developing and providing content for website, app, signage, brochures, etc. for garden orientation and educational purposes.
Additional Areas of development and support
- Education / Marketing as requested
- Offer Education Programs – Teaching MG staff and customers about our plants and products
- Assist in updating the Plant database
- Assist in providing catalog writing for plant descriptions
- Promotional writing for marketing purposes as directed by sales & marketing team. For example: promotional stories about specific gardens or plant stories for particular species or cultivars
- Contribute and support accession coordination and trial planting with Product Manager
- Photograph plants and gardens with direction on priority from marketing leadership
REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Good organizational skills
- Currently enrolled in, or recently graduated from, a related area of study
- Comfortable with working outdoors in both rain and sunshine.
