Community Engagement Internship Summer 2026
Jewish Family Services (JFS) of Rochester is pleased to offer a paid Community Engagement Internship during the summer of 2026. This hybrid position provides an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience in nonprofit work, program development, and community relations. The intern will play a key role in supporting the JFS Generations Program Coordinator as they plan and execute a variety of events, facilitated volunteer opportunities, and member outreach initiatives to support Generations—a grant funded program that provides socialization opportunities, cultural experiences, and food basket deliveries to Holocaust survivors and their immediate relatives. Examples of past events include luncheons, trips to local institutions (e.g. the Memorial Art Gallery), and workshops—among others.
Location: Hybrid
Hours: 8-12 hours/week
Compensation: $18/hour
The ideal candidate for this position will be enthusiastic, detail-oriented, comfortable initiating conversations with new people, and eager to learn about social services and community engagement. Throughout the internship, they will have the opportunity to develop skills in event coordination, data systems, marketing, and relationship building. The position may also provide professional development opportunities via online trainings. A successful candidate will bring creativity and initiative to their work, supporting the execution of meaningful events that reflect JFS’s mission, values, and impact.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with planning, logistics, and day-of coordination for JFS (Generations) events
- Help manage event timelines, attendance lists, and registration processes
- Conduct outreach to services and community partners as needed
- Contribute creative ideas to encourage intracommunity connections and strengthen partnerships
- Collaborate with staff to develop event invitations and improve messaging strategies
- Assist with post-event evaluation and data management for assessing/tracking program success
Candidate Requirements:
- Interest in community engagement, nonprofit management, and program outreach
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines (project-based mentality)
- Strong record of consistent organizational prowess, open communication, and attention to detail
- Flexibility and the ability to adapt to unexpected challenges
- Willingness to learn new skills
- Ability to both take direction and voice suggestions to improve processes
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Canva (comfortability with Excel preferred)
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a hybrid environment
