Behavioral Health Intern

Behavioral Health (BH) services make up ~60% of total services at NYC Health + Hospitals (H+H), with patients experiencing mental illness and substance use disorders being the highest users of care. To improve outcomes, expanding capacity to address these needs across the system is essential. The BH Operations Intern will support BH initiatives to transform care, making it more patient-centered, effective, and cost-efficient. The intern will also assist with OBH office-wide projects aimed at improving operations and efficiency, enabling staff to better support facility stakeholders and optimize patient care.

 

The BH Operations Intern would report into the Office of Behavioral Health. Specifically, the intern would report into Director of Behavioral Health Operations.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Our intern will take part in meaningful work and real-life projects that will help them grow both professionally and personally throughout the program. The opportunity will allow the intern to participate in such as:

 

• Assist with the OBH Shared Drive Remapping project, supporting design, organization, and creation of guidance documents for the new drive structure

• Support the BH Sustainability initiative by tracking progress and coordinating with Revenue Cycle, OBH subject matter experts, EPIC, and BH facility leads to ensure timely project milestone delivery

• Assist with the Bluetooth Low Energy Beacon project by coordinating and liaising with EPIC, BH facility leads, and stakeholders for efficient roll out

• Assist in the roll out of office-wide operational and Wellness workflows and projects, including the development of guidance documents

• Participate in project-specific work group and check in meetings, preparing agendas and taking minutes to understand the strategy behind project progression

• Engage in regular 1:1 meetings  with supervisor to discuss task progress, challenges, and barriers

• Other duties as assigned by supervisor and OBH leadership

 

 QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

 

Proficient in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook, and Windows Operating System 

 

PREFERRED MAJOR:

Master's student with a major in public administration or public health.

The intern will be provided with weekly supervision by supervisor. Within this session, the intern will discuss task progress, challenges, and barriers. Professional development opportunities will be discussed. Supervisor will work with intern to ensure opportunities are provided to meet the intern's interests to the best of her ability. The intern will be provided with onboarding orientation, as well as will participate in project-based workgroup and check in meetings. The intern will also be encouraged to attend H+H offered trainings (learning collaboratives, grand rounds etc.) as offered.
