Looking for a meaningful part-time job that fits your class schedule? Join the YMCA of Greater Kansas City as a Youth Development Leader (YDL) and make a difference in the lives of elementary-aged children.

You’ll lead games, crafts, sports, and enrichment activities while creating a safe, engaging environment in our before and after school programs.

Perfect for students pursuing careers in education, psychology, social work, recreation, or youth development.

Schedule & Flexibility

  • Weekday mornings (before school) and/or afternoons (after school until ~6:00 PM)
  • Flexible scheduling based on your availability
  • No weekends required

Pay & Perks

  • Starting at $15.50/hour (higher rates based on experience/education)

What You’ll Do

  • Lead a group of elementary-aged children in daily activities (games, crafts, sports, snack time)
  • Ensure a safe and inclusive environment at all times
  • Use positive behavior guidance and role modeling
  • Build relationships with kids, families, school staff, and teammates
  • Set up and clean up program spaces
  • Follow YMCA, licensing, and school district policies
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies and report concerns as required

What We’re Looking For

  • 18+ years old
  • High school diploma or equivalent (required at Kansas sites)
  • Experience working with kids (babysitting, camps, tutoring, etc.)
  • Interest in youth development, education, or related fields
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Reliable, positive, and engaging personality

Bonus If You Have

  • College coursework in education, psychology, or a related field
  • Experience working with diverse populations
  • Leadership or group facilitation experience
