Bridge Engineer I
About the Role
Lochmueller Group is a seeking a motivated Bridge Engineer to join our growing transportation team in Indiana. This role is ideal for recent graduates or early‑career professionals who are passionate about structural design, transportation infrastructure, and contributing to projects that directly support communities across the state and beyond. You’ll work alongside experienced engineers on a variety of bridge and structural assignments, gaining hands‑on experience and building a strong foundation for your career.
**This position will be based out of our office in Mishawaka, IN**

We provide multi-disciplined services for a variety of public agencies and private entities, including bridge and building design and inspection; highway design; traffic engineering and transportation planning; environmental analysis and permitting; construction engineering and inspection; surveying; right-of-way engineering; and land acquisition & appraisal.

What You’ll Do:
- Assist in the design and analysis of bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and other transportation‑related structures
- Prepare structural calculations, design reports, and plan sheets under the guidance of senior engineers
- Support the development of construction documents, specifications, and cost estimates
- Perform load rating analyses and assist with structural evaluations
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on INDOT and municipal projects
- Participate in field visits, inspections, and data collection as needed
- Learn industry‑standard software and design tools used in structural engineering
What We’re Looking For:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (with a structural emphasis preferred)
- EIT certification or ability to obtain within 12 months
- Strong interest in bridge and structural engineering
- Familiarity with structural analysis concepts and basic design principles
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and problem‑solving skills
- Willingness to learn, ask questions, and grow within a collaborative environment
- Experience with MicroStation, AutoCAD, or structural software (STAAD, LEAP, etc.) is a plus
