Job Summary: Pine Forest Children's Center (PFCC) has been providing high quality early childhood education for a diverse community of families in the South End of Burlington since 1988. We are seeking a professional level teacher for a full-time teaching position to work with our teaching teams infant through preschool. We pride ourselves on our ability to partner with families to help children grow to the best of their abilities. As a teaching community we are passionate about our school and professional field. The ideal candidate will be a motivated, responsible, flexible team player that loves working with young children and will possess strong communication skills. PFCC is a multi-faceted community which values imagination, integrity, curiosity and responsibility in children and adults. We are innovative, yet with a sense of tradition and attention to the natural world. Our curriculum is emergent and play-based, allowing children to guide their own learning. We plan developmentally appropriate activities that are teacher guided and open ended, utilizing large and small groups, reflecting the best research in early childhood education. We believe in connecting children to the communities in our neighborhood and city and strive to find opportunities to partner on projects when possible.
Duties
- Applicant will be responsible for supervision of students in their classroom, curriculum planning, classroom management, collaboration with colleagues, and adherence to VT Licensing Regulations and Vermont Early Learning Standards (VELS). Early childhood educators have the ability to design their classroom learning environments with their team as well as curriculum design and planning. We use observation and assessment tools (ASQ & TSG) to document each child's growth and learning. We believe in making learning visible for children, families and community members as a way to advocate for children and our field.
- Assist in the implementation of curricula activities and encourage participation by children.
- Work on a team to support the needs of the classroom and the individual children.
- Actively engage in activities; manage cleanliness, maintenance, and availability of classroom materials.
- Maintain frequent communications with parents through informal discussions, parent conversations, and developmental summaries.
- Encourage self-help and good hygiene through behavior modeling.
- Help ensure smooth, daily transition from home to child care center as well as throughout the day.
- Follow all center policies and state regulations.
- Maintain a personal professional development plan to ensure continuous quality. improvement and professional growth.
Qualifications
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively interact with children, parents, and colleagues.
- Minimum of 1-2 years of professional child care experience (willing to support individuals interested in joining the field)
- Ability to work well with others and offer and receive constructive feedback.
- Strong oral and written communication skills and basic computer skills.
- An understanding of child development (or willingness to take a child development course)
- Excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Infant/child CPR and First Aid certification required within 3 months of hire
- Must clear a full background check.
- Applicant will need to be able to lift 50 lbs, stoop, bend, and lift.
- A degree or certification in Early Childhood Education or related field is preferred but not required.
