Upper School Science Teacher

Position Overview

Decatur Heritage Christian Academy (DHCA) is seeking a knowledgeable, relational, and mission-driven educator to serve as an Upper School teacher in Chemistry and Physical Science. Primary Responsibilities

  • Teach Upper School courses in Chemistry and Physical Science with strong instructional clarity and student engagement
  • Design and deliver well-structured lesson plans aligned with college-preparatory expectations
  • Facilitate safe, organized, and effective laboratory experiences
  • Assess student progress through a variety of formative and summative methods
  • Maintain timely grading and clear communication with students and parents
  • Integrate a Christian worldview into science instruction, helping students see the coherence between faith and scientific inquiry
  • Establish a classroom culture marked by respect, curiosity, diligence, and encouragement
  • Collaborate with colleagues to support academic excellence and program growth
  • Participate actively in faculty life, professional development, and school events
  • Support the broader mission of DHCA through prayer, mentorship, and Christ-centered example

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Science Education, Physics or a closely related field
  • Demonstrated commitment to the Christian faith and agreement with the school’s mission
  • Ability to articulate how faith informs teaching and relationships with students
  • Strong content knowledge in chemistry and physical science
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and classroom leadership skills
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues
  • State certification (preferred but not required for all candidates)
