Intake Specialist (full-time)

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

  • Answering a large number of daily incoming telephone calls on a multi-line telephone system, screening calls for possible intakes, counseling consumers about their rights, and making appropriate referrals;
  • Documenting all telephone calls, voicemail messages, emails, mail correspondence, office visits, etc. from consumers seeking assistance;
  • Performing intake of housing discrimination complaints in the areas of rental housing, real estate sales, mortgage lending, homeowners insurance, appraisal, zoning, land use, etc.;
  • Advocating for people with disabilities to assist them in obtaining reasonable accommodations;
  • Working with the Executive Director to coordinate and plan the Council’s education and outreach activities;
  • Participating in the Council’s education and outreach activities targeted to the public, housing consumers, housing providers, social service agencies, government officials, etc.;
  • Developing working relationships with other housing advocates, tenants’ rights groups, community-based organizations, faith-based organizations, etc., including attending community meetings, hearings, etc.;
  • Working with diverse individuals or groups who are alleged victims of discrimination;
  • Assisting staff with collecting information about housing practices in our service area;
  • Preparing reports on fair housing activities for grant reporting or as needed;
  • Typing and logging general correspondence;
  • Processing, registering, and dispersing all incoming and outgoing mail;
  • Performing general office tasks such as copying, faxing, and filing;
  • And all other duties as assigned.

 

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor’s Degree in any social work or related field preferred.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must have at least one (1) year experience answering a high volume of telephone calls daily.
  • Previous experience in social work, legal services, or civil rights preferred.
  • Must have computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Must be detailed oriented and able to follow procedures and protocols exactly.
  • Must have excellent organization and communication skills.
  • Must have reliable transportation.

WORK SCHEDULE:

  • Full-time employees work 40 hours per week in our office with the ability to create a flexible work schedule between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
