Summer Law Clerk
Our firm is seeking one to two highly motivated Summer Law Clerks to join our team for the 2026 summer term. This is a unique opportunity for law students to gain immersive, hands-on experience in high-profile criminal defense litigation. You will work directly with the managing attorney on cases involving the California Racial Justice Act (RJA) and multiple Penal Code § 187 (Murder) trials.
Key Responsibilities
- Racial Justice Act (RJA) Litigation: Conduct in-depth legal research and draft motions focused on RJA claims, focusing on systemic bias and disparate impact in the criminal justice system.
- Trial Preparation: Assist in preparing for multiple upcoming homicide trials, including witness preparation, exhibit management, and drafting trial briefs.
- Courtroom Experience: Clerks will have the opportunity to attend trials in person, observe proceedings, and assist the trial team in the courtroom.
- Client Advocacy: Assist with client intake, interviews, and ongoing communication with client's and their families.
Qualifications
- Education: Upcoming 2L or 3L student at an ABA-accredited or California-accredited law school.
- Skills: Excellent legal writing and research skills are required. Candidates should be comfortable synthesizing complex facts and case law.
- Interests: A demonstrated passion for racial justice, civil rights, and criminal defense.
- Eligibility: Candidates should be eligible for the California State Bar PTLS Program if they wish to appear in court under supervision.
Compensation & Credit
- Paid Position: Compensation is competitive and Dependent on Experience (DOE).
- Academic Credit: We are happy to coordinate with your law school’s externship or clinical program for academic credit.
