Civil Project Engineer

Froelich Engineers, Inc. is seeking a full-time, in-person civil project engineer with three to eight (3-8)  years of experience for our Portland office location.

As a Civil Project Engineer, you will play a key role in the planning and design of site development projects. You will work under the supervision of licensed professional engineers while gaining hands-on experience in grading, stormwater management, utilities, and site layout. Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead civil site design for commercial, residential, and mixed-use development projects from schematic design through construction documents
  • Prepare and oversee grading, drainage, stormwater management, and utility design calculations and plan production
  • Design stormwater systems including detention, conveyance, water quality, and infiltration facilities in accordance with local jurisdictional standards
  • Design and coordinate water, sanitary sewer, and storm utility systems, including utility relocations and public improvements when required
  • Develop and review civil construction documents using AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Perform hydrologic and hydraulic analyses and prepare supporting technical documentation
  • Coordinate directly with architects, structural engineers, landscape architects, surveyors, geotechnical engineers, and public agencies
  • Prepare permit submittals and lead responses to jurisdictional review comments
  • Attend and participate in client meetings, agency meetings, and internal coordination meetings
  • Support construction administration, including responding to RFIs, reviewing submittals, and performing site visits
  • Mentor junior designers and support internal quality control processes

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering
  • Three to eight (3–8) years of civil site design experience (commercial and/or residential development preferred)
  • PE license required
  • Demonstrated experience in grading design, stormwater management, and utility coordination
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Experience working with local jurisdictional standards and permitting processes
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines with limited oversight
  • Collaborative, team-oriented mindset with leadership potential
  • Construction administration experience preferred

Compensation, Benefits, Opportunities

  • Competitive Salary based on experience and qualifications: $75,000 to $90,000 a year
