About the Position:
Under the direction of the Branch Chief of Safety Systems and Devices, a Senior Transportation Engineer (Supervisor), the incumbent, a Transportation Engineer (Civil), serves as a Safety Support Engineer in the Traffic Signs and Safety Devices Branch. The incumbent establishes statewide standards and guidelines for traffic control and safety devices/systems; provides technical guidance to districts; evaluates new and proprietary products for use on the State Highway System; and develops and maintains policies, Standard Plans, Standard Specifications, and Nonstandard Special Provisions for Traffic Safety and Traffic Control Devices. The incumbent provides training and implementation support through the Traffic Safety Systems Guidance Manual and the California Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (CA MUTCD).
