Location: 5700 Almaden Expressway, San Jose, CA 95118

Type: Part-time, in person

Compensation: $28.27-$32.27 per hour

The Santa Clara Valley Water District, now known as Valley Water, manages an integrated water resources system that includes the supply of clean, safe water, flood protection, and stewardship of streams on behalf of Santa Clara County’s 1.9 million residents. The Civic Engagement Unit is looking for an undergraduate or graduate student intern to support the Education Outreach Program.
Each year, Education Outreach engages over 8,000 students, teachers, and members of the public in learning about water and Valley Water’s role in Santa Clara County. Our classroom, field trip, and library programs engage students in hands-on learning to promote water conservation, pollution prevention, environmental stewardship, and flood awareness.
Student Intern Responsibilities in Education Outreach include, but are not limited to, the following:

Present programming such as lessons, tours, and assemblies in classroom, outdoor, and virtual settings.
Prepare, organize, and maintain teaching materials.
Support the creation of educational curriculum and newsletters.
Support outreach to schools, libraries, summer camps, and youth-serving organizations.
Ideal candidate characteristics and skills:
Interest in community engagement and public service.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Teaching and/ or coaching experience working with youth.
Strong presentation abilities, including skills related to engaging diverse audiences.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace.


Qualifications and requirements:

Live within a 150-mile radius of Valley Water headquarters.
Be enrolled in at least 9 units per semester or quarter equivalent in an educational institution, or have graduated within the past 6 months.
Be available to work a minimum of 3 days per week, Monday-Friday with core hours of 8:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. (averaging 15-20 hours per week).
T.B. test and fingerprinting clearance.

Possession of a valid California driver’s license.
