Job Title: Human Resources Intern

Student Affairs Human Resources is located on the first floor of
East Eggleston.
Position Overview
This paid internship ($12.50/hr) runs the 2026-2027 academic
year, beginning in August 2026 and ending
at the conclusion of the Spring 2027 semester.
The intern will meet weekly with their site supervisor.
The Human Resources Intern will work up to 8-10 hours a week
during the fall and spring semesters (flexible) between the hours
of 8 AM – 5 PM, Monday – Friday.
Training will be provided on communication platforms, Human
Resources policies and processes, SharePoint.
The Human Resources Intern will determine a weekly schedule
at the beginning of each semester.
This position is on-site.
This position supports a “dress for your day” policy (casual for
most days, business casual for meetings and events)
Job Description:
Manage the employee classification and compensation
database
Perform data entry tasks within the Banner system
Review and audit Human Resources transactions
Assist with onboarding new employees, including preparing new
hire welcome packages
Assist with performance planning and evaluation
Assist in reviewing department and Virginia Tech policies and
ensuring compliance
Assist in developing and maintaining HR Resources SharePoint
site
Assist with recruiting and staffing, including preparing
application screening grids
Assignment on HR project such as employee engagement or
student hiring
Attend department and team meetings as needed
Required Qualifications:
Undergraduate student status
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience working in an office setting
Experience using Microsoft 365 products including Word ,Excel,
and Sharepoint
Necessary skills include:
Strong communication skills, attention to detail, organizational
skills, ability to work independently and also collaboratively on a
team, willing to contribute new ideas, professionalism.
Reporting to:
The Human Resources Intern reports to the Coordinator for
Recruitment, Reporting and Performance Management, who is
responsible for providing key Human Resources Project
Management support throughout Student Affairs through
training, creating job tools, assessment and supporting
performance management.
The Coordinator for Recruitment, Performance Management and
Reporting previously supported student development through
Housing and Residence Life. In her current role, she works to
implement streamlined processes as well as foster relationships,
challenge and uplift others and demonstrate empathy in all
aspects of her work.
