Reports To: Associate Director of Operations
Location: University of Akron – Department of Residence Life and Housing
Compensation: $13.00 per hour & on-campus housing
Employment Dates: May 18, 2026 – August 23, 2026
FLSA Status: Student Non-Exempt
Summary:
The Summer Conference Assistant is responsible for assisting conference operations and various administrative tasks.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist in preparation of conference materials (brochures, flyers, and keys/swipe cards).
- Participate in staff meetings and additional trainings and meetings as assigned.
- Provide customer service and anticipate conference guests’ needs and courteous handling of all Guest issues, including complaints.
- Complete conference check-in and checkouts including keys, walk-throughs, review paperwork to ensure all arrangements are in order.
- Provide front desk coverage as needed
- Report maintenance/custodial concerns and monitoring for unresolved issues in guest rooms and conference buildings.
- Assist with linen packages, including distribution and collection.
- Help maintenance and custodial staff with unit preparation including moving furniture, event equipment set-up and light custodial work.
- Update summer bulletin boards and be sure that they have current information.
- Respond to lock-out assistance and addressing questions/ concerns after hours.
- Provide residence hall tours to prospective students, providing knowledgeable information of RLH operations, facilities, and policies.
- Assist Residence Life and Housing Department for academic year preparation & move in
- Respond to building wide emergency situations as needed.
- Serve on an on-call/duty phone rotation for conference guests and groups
- Abide by, and enforce all University policies and procedures, residence hall policies, and local, state, and federal laws as outlined in the Student Code of Conduct and Residence Hall Handbook.
- Maintaining confidentiality in all matters concerning student/staff discipline and any other matters.
- Other tasks as assigned.

- High school diploma.
- Current student at the University of Akron
- Demonstrate proficiency in verbal communication.
- Possess strong customer service skills.
- Must have troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
- Ability to operate basic office equipment including computer, telephone, etc.
- Ability to lift and move furniture on a regular basis.
- Must be able to move/life up to 50 pounds

This is a student hourly position and is not eligible for benefits.
Dates of available on-campus housing: May 18, 2026 – August 2, 2026. Summer on-campus housing will be a private bedroom room in a 4-bedroom apartment.
