The Opportunity

The Town of Mansfield, Connecticut (www.mansfieldct.gov) is seeking seasonal laborers for its Public Works Department. Seasonal laborers help care for town and school grounds, parks, trails, roadways, and other infrastructure. Grounds duties include but are not limited to maintaining athletic fields, flowerbeds, trails and mowing grass, and other tasks as assigned. Other examples of work includes patching, flagging, and cleaning catch basins.

About Us

The Town of Mansfield's Department of Public Works provides services for the operation, maintenance, and repair of the Town's fleet and infrastructure such as roads; sidewalks; bridges; solid waste facilities; park and recreation areas; athletic fields; sewers and sewer pump stations; and vehicles and equipment. The following departments, divisions, and programs are reflected under Public Works: Engineering Division which includes sewers; Operations Division which includes equipment maintenance, grounds maintenance, road maintenance, transfer station and tree warden; Solid Waste Division which includes trash and recycling contracted services. 

Mansfield, with a population of approximately 26,000, is located in the Northeastern portion of the state, better known as Connecticut's Last Green Valley National Heritage Corridor.  Home to the University of Connecticut, Mansfield offers the unique blend of urban (Downtown Storrs - www.mansfieldmdp.org), suburban, and rural living in a university setting. Mansfield has a variety of cultural and educational offerings, as well as an abundance of natural resources ideal for activities such as hiking, cycling, and kayaking.  Mansfield is a Council-Manager form of government, with the Town Manager serving as the Chief Executive Officer responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Town. 

 

Work Schedule & Location

This position is seasonal and 40 hours per week. Positions can start as early as May 2026 and conclude as late as October 2026; the exact duration is flexible dependent upon the selected candidate(s) availability.

The reporting location is the Town of Mansfield Public Works Garage, 230 Clover Mill Road, Mansfield Center, CT 06250.

 

Compensation

The hourly rate of pay is $19.07-$21.89. The hiring rate of pay will depend upon the selected candidate's qualifications and experience.Part-time, non-benefits eligible employees working for the Town of Mansfield are required to participate in a social security alternative plan which is a 457 tax deferred compensation plan.  This position is also eligible to accrue and use sick leave through the Connecticut Paid Sick Leave law. Outside of the tax-deferred compensation plan and paid sick leave, there are no additional employer paid benefits with this position.

 

Training and Experience

Candidate(s) must possess a valid driver's license. Previous grounds and/or road maintenance experience preferred. Must be willing to work outside in varying conditions.
