Patent Research & Oil & Gas Mechanical Intern

Title: Patent Research Intern – Mechanical / Oil & Gas
Hours: Part-time, 20 hours/week
Location: Remote
Compensation: Interns at first; Unpaid

About the Role

We are seeking one to two interns with a mechanical engineering background and interest in oil and gas to support patent research and strategy work. You will work directly with Bridget on research and analysis that informs current and future patent activity across related technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Perform technical research related to mechanical systems, oil and gas applications, and adjacent technologies.
  • Assist with prior‑art searches and landscape reviews in support of new and existing patents.
  • Help summarize findings into clear notes, tables, and short briefs.
  • Track relevant industry, technology, and regulatory developments.
  • Support other patent‑related projects as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current student or recent graduate in mechanical engineering, petroleum engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • Demonstrated interest in oil and gas, energy technologies, and/or patent law.
  • Strong technical reading and research skills, with the ability to interpret papers and patents.
  • Detail‑oriented, organized, and comfortable working with ambiguous, open‑ended research tasks.
  • Interest in patent law and IP strategy and willingness to learn the basics on the job.
