CELT Municipal Fellow

The CELT Initiative, a partnership between the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the University of Massachusetts Lowell, and Boston University, is seeking student fellows to work in municipalities and regional organizations, helping municipalities navigate the complexities of the energy transition effectively. This is a part‑time program designed to advance clean energy and sustainability across Massachusetts, although it’s more than just an opportunity to support Massachusetts communities—it’s a chance for fellows to develop critical skills, expand their professional networks, and make a tangible impact in the clean energy space. Cohort three (Summer/Fall) will take place from June to November 2026.

Fellows will gain hands‑on experience with community outreach, project development, research, policy, grant writing, and more! This role is 20 hrs./week and is open to students from any college or University, and to all majors and levels.

Fellows will:

  • Work directly with municipal leaders and community stakeholders to implement real-world energy transition projects.
  • Build expertise in key areas, deepening their knowledge in electrification, geothermal energy, policy, grant writing, finance, and more, while applying these skills to meaningful projects.
  • Receive mentorship and professional development, benefiting from training sessions, expert mentorship, and career-building workshops designed to enhance technical and leadership skills.
  • Expand their network and connect with like-minded professionals, industry leaders, and municipal officials to open doors for future opportunities.
  • Drive meaningful impact and play a crucial role in helping towns transition to sustainable energy solutions, leaving a lasting mark on local communities.
