Student Eligibility

  • Current NJ undergraduate student 
  • Current NJ graduate student 
  • Recent NJ college graduate: must have graduated less than one year prior to start of the internship experience (May 2025-May 2026 graduates) 
  • A current undergraduate student who is a permanent NJ resident 

 

Summary (overview of position):

This position focuses on hands-on optical bench testing to characterize meta-optics and other optical components for imaging and sensing applications. The role involves setting up, aligning, and troubleshooting optical and opto-mechanical systems, operating laboratory instrumentation to collect data, analyzing measurement results, and documenting test procedures and findings in clear, well-organized reports.

Experience

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer science and engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, material science and engineering, physics and apply mathematics.

Responsibilities, duties:

  • Perform hands-on optical bench testing to characterize meta-optics and other optical components for imaging and sensing applications.
  • Set up, align, and troubleshoot optical and opto-mechanical systems, including lenses, metalenses, cameras, and light sources.
  • Operate laboratory instrumentation (e.g., cameras, power meters, spectrometers) to collect experimental data.
  • Analyze measurement data to evaluate optical performance and identify sources of error or variation.
  • Maintain organized lab notebooks and assist with documenting test procedures and results.
  • Prepare clear and concise test reports summarizing experimental setups, methods, and findings.
