BCOE is simultaneously recruiting for the Mental Health Clinician I and Mental Health Clinician II position. The recruitment for the Mental Health Clinician I and Mental Health Clinician II will be merged for interview and hiring purposes. The successful candidate may be hired from either level.
JOB TITLE: Mental Health Clinician II (614)
WORK YEAR: Full time: 7 hours per day/Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 3:30 pm/11 months/183 days annually
START DATE: As soon as possible after interview
SALARY: Salary Schedule 04, $61,539.53 – $124,783.11, Annually. This position is exempt from overtime. Annual stipend pay: Master’s $1,200, or Doctorate $2,000 (Salary and Stipend Prorated upon hire)
Placement on salary schedule is dependent upon how many years of full-time certificated experience you have, as well as your level of education above and beyond your Bachelor’s Degree.
Newly hired personnel will be credited on a year-for-year basis with a maximum of eleven (11) years verified certificated experience for previous public or private service if such service has been rendered under contract in an accredited system. For experience exceeding eleven (11) and up to nineteen (19) years, personnel will be credited with one (1) year additional step placement for every two years of experience, not to exceed sixteen (16) steps at initial placement.
BENEFITS: Generous benefits package that includes Medical, Dental, and Vision for employee and dependents. Sick leave accrued. $50,000 Employer paid life insurance provided. This position qualifies for CalSTRS retirement. The employee contribution rate for CalSTRS is either 10.25% or 10.205% of monthly earnings depending on the membership date.

DEFINITION:
Under the direction of the assigned Administrator and within the scope of the license, to independently provide assessment, diagnosis, counseling, and psychotherapeutic treatment to children and adults; may provide educational consultation services to other staff, community agencies, and the public; may, as assigned, provide clinical supervision and training; and, do related work as required.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
Clinical positions require that incumbents work within the scope of a:
- California Pupil Personnel Services Credential in School Psychology; OR
- California Pupil Personnel Services Credential in School Counseling; OR
- California Pupil Personnel Services Credential in School Social Work
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES: (May include, but is not limited to the following)
- Performs intensive casework services with children and adult clients or their relatives through individual or group therapy
- Participates in the intake process in the evaluation of problems presented and in the development of treatment plans
- Gathers data relative to the client’s personal, social, and emotional history by interviewing the client, relatives, friends, teachers, and employers
- Prepares case histories with particular emphasis upon psycho-social factors affecting the client
- Cooperates with other staff members and with community agencies in carrying out treatment plans
- Provides clinical supervision and training to assigned staff.
- Provides consultation and case management with school staff, other departments, and outside agency providers
- Interprets and explains to school staff, community groups, and outside agency providers, the social, emotional, and behavioral factors pertaining to the student’s disability in order to provide a better understanding of how these factors are impacting the student’s educational progress
- Interprets and implements evidence-based methods of treatment for social, emotional, and behavioral problems related to the student’s assessed areas of need
- Prepares records and reports related to progress on goals and psychosocial status assessments
- Prepares LEA Medi-Cal billing logs for all appropriate services
QUALIFICATIONS:
KNOWLEDGE OF:
- Principles, techniques, and trends in counseling, psychotherapy, and various treatment modalities
- Biological, behavioral, and environmental aspects of emotional disturbance, mental health disabilities, and/or substance abuse
- The scope and activities of public and private health and welfare agencies and other available community resources
- Principles and techniques of mental health consultation, education, and prevention within the community
- LEA Medi-Cal billing practices and record keeping
ABILITY TO:
- Effectively apply psychotherapeutic techniques of a complex nature in the treatment of individual clients and groups.
- Develop and maintain cooperative, constructive, relationships with clients and their families, members of other professional disciplines, social agencies, and colleagues
- Prepare clear, concise, and comprehensive casework records, and make sound recommendations on the basis of such information
- Organize and manage a caseload
- Provide targeted case management including regular collaboration with school staff, service providers, family members, and outside agency providers
- Provide clinical supervision and training to assigned staff
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Master’s Degree or higher in Psychology or Social Work
- Possession of a valid California Pupil Personnel Services Credential in either School Counseling, School Psychology, or School Social Work
- Experience working with K-12 students providing individual and group counseling
NOTE: Candidates from out of state who hold the equivalent of a Pupil Personnel Services Credential in School Counseling, School Psychology, or School Social Work may be considered with the stipulation that they are qualified for, and apply for, the California credential upon offer of employment.
OTHER:
- Possession of California Driver’s License and appropriate automobile insurance
