Software Engineering Intern (Summer 2026)

Role Summary
As a Software Engineering Intern at Twenty, you’ll work alongside engineers building real
software systems that support cyber and electromagnetic missions tied to U.S. national security.
You’ll receive close mentorship from senior engineers while contributing to meaningful technical
work in a mission-driven environment.
This is an opportunity for students who like building, learning quickly, and applying technical
skills to real-world problems. Depending on team priorities, you may help prototype new product
capabilities, improve internal tooling, work with operational data, or support AI-enabled
workflows that help analysts and operators move faster.

national security.
● You’re an early-career builder with evidence of initiative and technical curiosity, whether
through side projects, coursework, research, hackathons, open-source contributions, or
prior internships.
● You enjoy solving ambiguous problems, learning quickly, and turning rough ideas into
working software.
● You’re excited by modern engineering tools, including AI, and you like experimenting to
figure out what works in practice.
● You communicate clearly, respond well to feedback, and take ownership of your work.
What You’ll Do
● Build software prototypes, product features, and internal tools with guidance from senior
engineers.
● Write clean, readable, testable code and participate in code review.
● Contribute across APIs, automation, data workflows, developer tooling, and AI-enabled
product capabilities.
● Help translate user needs and technical direction into working software.
● Test, debug, and improve the reliability and usability of the systems you work on.
● Document your work clearly and communicate progress, tradeoffs, and next steps.
● Collaborate closely with engineers and domain experts on mission-driven problems.

Must Have
● Rising senior preferred; exceptional rising juniors will also be considered.
● Pursuing a B.S. in Computer Science.
● U.S. citizen and eligible to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance;
active clearance not required to apply.
● Strong interest in national security.
● Experience writing code in at least one modern programming language such as Python,
Go or Java, C++.
● Evidence that you like to build through coursework, research, internships, hackathons,
student organizations, or personal projects.
● Strong communication skills, sound judgment, and a growth mindset.
Nice to Have
● Hands-on experimentation with AI/ML, LLMs, or agentic workflows.
● Exposure to APIs, databases, cloud environments, Linux, or developer tooling.
● Interest in cybersecurity, distributed systems, data modeling, or performance.
● Previous internship, research, startup, or other mission-focused experience.
Tech Environment
You may work with:
● Go, Python, JavaScript/TypeScript
● APIs, automation, and internal tooling
● AWS, containers, CI/CD, and cloud-native workflows
● AI tools and modern software development practices

Security / Work Environment
This is an engineering internship in a mission-driven environment. Interns work with close mentorship, appropriate access controls, and review from senior staff.
