Job Overview

Ellucian is seeking driven and technically strong Software Engineering Interns to join Ellucian Next in Reston, VA for Summer 2026. Ellucian Next is our incubation team focused on building net-new products and accelerating development of existing products.

 

This is not a shadowing internship. You will be a working engineer on a real product roadmap, shipping production code in a modern stack that includes React.js, TypeScript, Node.js, Python, and AWS. Many of the experiences you build will incorporate agentic features, using agents to help deliver product functionality, workflows, and user outcomes.

 

Where you will make an impact

Build Product Features (Frontend + Backend):

  • Develop and ship user-facing features in React + TypeScript.
  • Build APIs and services using Node.js/TypeScript.
  • Build AI Agents using Python.
  • Contribute against a real backlog with tracked stories, and PR reviews

Integrate Agentic Features into Products:

  • Implement product capabilities that leverage AI Platform-powered agents (e.g., guided workflows, automation, or intelligent assistants in the product experience).
  • Design tool/function calling patterns, agent workflows, and guardrails appropriate for product use cases.
  • Apply agentic development workflows where AI agents support coding, testing, and documentation - while you remain accountable for correctness and quality.

Deploy to AWS using Infrastructure as Code:

  • Package and deploy solutions to AWS using AWS CDK.
  • Work with CI/CD pipelines and participate in production releases.
  • Learn practical cloud engineering: environments, permissions, logging/monitoring, and operational readiness.

 

What you will bring

  • Currently pursuing a BS or MS in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field (rising junior/senior/grad preferred).
  • Strong programming fundamentals with hands-on ability in:
    • React.js and modern frontend practices
    • JavaScript/TypeScript
    • Node.js
    • Python
  • Familiarity with Git, REST APIs, and building/debugging real applications (coursework, projects, or internships).
  • Interest in cloud development and willingness to learn AWS and AWS CDK.
  • Comfort using AI assistants/agents in development workflows and owning the results.
  • Strong documentation skills.
