Job Summary

The Lifeguard ensures the safety and well-being of all camper's aquatic activities. This role involves supervision, enforcing safety rules, assisting younger campers in the water, performing rescues when necessary, and maintaining a positive, supportive environment that fosters campers’ confidence in and around the water.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise all campers and staff participating in swimming 
  • Monitor pool area to prevent accidents and respond quickly to emergencies.
  • Enforce all camp and aquatic safety rules consistently and fairly.
  • Perform rescues, administer first aid, and provide CPR as needed.
  • Conduct regular safety checks of the pool, equipment, and surrounding areas; report hazards promptly.
  • Assist with daily setup and cleanup of aquatics areas.
  • Lead or assist with swim instruction and water-based games as directed.
  • Collaborate with counselors and directors to ensure smooth transitions and camper accountability.
  • Maintain accurate attendance, incident reports and maintain daily records.
  • Serve as a positive role model, promoting teamwork, respect, and camp values.

Qualifications

  • Current Lifeguard Certification, including water front (e.g., American Red Cross, YMCA, or equivalent).
  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications required.
  • Minimum age: 18
  • Ability to stay focused under pressure and react decisively in emergencies.
  • Previous experience working with children or in a camp setting preferred.
  • Positive attitude, reliability, and strong communication skills.

Work Environment

  • Beach front (½ day)
  • Outdoor pool; variable weather conditions.
  • Extended periods in sun, heat, or water.
  • Requires alertness, concentration, and physical mobility throughout the day.
