Engineering Team Description:

We are looking for an exceptional Solar Development Intern to join our Engineering team. The technical team leverages expertise in technical programs including AutoCAD, PVSyst, Helioscope, GIS software, etc. to drive project design and optimization. Thus, the ideal candidate would bring a structured, yet entrepreneurial, approach to supporting our Engineering Team in their efforts to design and develop effective solar-powered systems for a range of high-quality projects in current markets.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate on the identification of prospective sites through analyzing the electric grid infrastructure on mapping software.
  • Research and organize information on new industry technologies.
  • Assist with the analysis of project feasibility (i.e. assessing project-specific variables that may result in potential challenges).
  • Assist with the critical flaw analysis of projects in new markets.
  • Proactively monitor and research new renewable energy technologies.
  • Assist with the creation of solar design documents such as constraints maps, site plans, and layouts (kmz, CAD).
  • Assist with preliminary solar layouts with standard industry tools such as Helioscope; assist with productivity modeling via PVSyst in collaboration with engineering team.
  • Monitor PV and BESS operation data from various sources including statistical models and operational data to recommend improved design standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Current university student majoring in Energy, Environmental Policy, Engineering, or similar area of study.
  • Desire to collaborate and contribute to company and team knowledge.
  • Excellent communication skills, highly organized, critical thinker, with high level of attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member; maintain an innovative mindset to operate as an important contributor within a fast-paced environment.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge or interest in programming (Python or similar) a plus.
  • Experience within the engineering, energy, solar and programming fields preferred.

 

Internship Logistics:

  • Salary: Compensated internship.
  • Location: Preference for individual to be located in the DC/Maryland area, with ability to work from Chaberton headquarters in Rockville, MD 2-3 days per week and remotely (as applicable).
  • Schedule: Chaberton provides a flexible schedule and the opportunity to work in a dynamic startup environment.
    • Part-time internship targeting 20 hours/week.
    • 6-month, 12-month internships available.
    • May/June start for Summer 2026 Internship.
