Licensed Mental Health Counselor
Responsibilities
The Licensed Mental Health Counselor/Therapist will provide culturally responsive, trauma-informed mental health services to children and adolescents (ages 18 and under) within a community-based pediatric setting. The counselor will deliver direct clinical care, collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary medical and behavioral health team, and support families by addressing mental health needs alongside relevant social determinants of health. This role emphasizes accessibility, continuity of care, and long-term engagement for underserved populations.
Key responsibilities include:
- Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments for pediatric patients and adolescents.
- Provide short- and medium-term counseling services using evidence-based therapeutic modalities, including CBT, play-based interventions, parent coaching strategies, ADHD-focused approaches, trauma-informed interventions, and somatic-based interventions.
- Develop, implement, and regularly update individualized treatment plans tailored to client needs, family context, and developmental stage.
- Deliver services through in-person and virtual appointments, with availability during late afternoons and with some evening availability to meet after-school time needs.
- Integrate trauma-informed care practices; EMDR trained preferred or interest in pursuing training.
- Establish and maintain positive, trusting relationships with patients and caregivers to promote retention and reduce stigma around mental health care.
- Collaborate with pediatric providers, medical leadership, and administrative colleagues to coordinate care, required reporting, and general administration.
- Screen for social determinants of health and support families in navigating referrals to social services, community programs, and external supports.
- Participate in outreach, referral coordination, and community-based engagement to strengthen access to care.
- Contribute to a welcoming, inclusive therapy environment that aligns with Lirios Pediatrics’ mission, vision, and long-term community impact goals.
Qualifications
Skills and qualifications include, but are not limited to, a demonstrated understanding of the role of a mental health counselor in a community-based pediatric setting. The ideal candidate is professional, organized, mission-driven, maintains confidentiality, and works effectively in collaborative environments.
Required and Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or related field.
- Preferred: Fully licensed mental health professional (e.g., LCSW, LPC, LMFT).
- Accepted: License-eligible candidates; supervision toward licensure/accreditation may be provided.
- Experience working with children and adolescents (ages 18 and under).
- Experience in community-based healthcare, nonprofit, or social service settings preferred.
- Bilingual English/Spanish required.
- Familiarity with evidence-based therapeutic frameworks commonly used with youth (e.g., CBT, play-based approaches, parenting interventions, ADHD-related therapies).
- Understanding of trauma-informed care; EMDR trained or willingness to pursue training.
- Strong communication skills and ability to function effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
