Senior Remote Pilot

Summary/Objective 

The Senior Remote Pilot in Command/ Visual Observer supports the operation and execution of an end-to-end drone delivery service using various drone platforms in the healthcare industry. As a leader the Senior RPIC will exhibit knowledge of sUAS operations as well as serve as a mentor to the team.  All crew members will develop a full understanding of CFR 14 Part 107 and Part 135 regulations and will ensure operations are compliant with all local, state, and federal regulations.  Each crewmember must explicitly follow safety and operational protocols, while possessing characteristics of integrity and trustworthiness. 

Essential Functions  

  1. Assist with developing, expanding and maintaining the distribution center’s UAS flight network
  2. Support the distribution center by managing and maintaining flight records and logs
  3. Perform site reconnaissance of new delivery points in a variety of settings, including public settings, residential homes, businesses and more
  4. Support continued site growth by participating in interviews both virtually and in person
  5. Configure distribution center electronic devices with the appropriate applications for fulfilling customer orders while also establishing appropriate accounts/passwords
  6. Maintain key control process and document all activity associated with the distribution of keys and badging process
  7. Perform technical and leadership training with staff in order to maintain operational effectiveness
  8. Serve as a strong leader while nurturing teamwork and collaboration.
  9. Immediately address any abnormal/emergency situations reported
  10. Daily fulfillment center set up and tear down. 
  11. Receives and fulfills orders on foot and/or by driving in an automobile. 
  12. Ensures operational status of all required equipment. 
  13. May monitor multiple sUAS in flight simultaneously
  14. Participates in initial and recurrent company training programs
  15. Conducts operations following strict procedures and checklists. 
  16. Deconflicts ground and air risks based on CFR 14 Part 107 or Part 135 during all operations. 
  17. Operates system in compliance with CFR 14 Part 107 or Part 135. 
  18. Provides customer service/support to current and future customers. 
  19. Assists with the improvement and efficiencies of current operations. 
  20. Performs public outreach using various means. 
  21. Performs collateral duties as required. 

*During times when delivery of orders by flight is interrupted due to weather conditions, technical issues, airspace restrictions, etc. employees are required to continue to support delivery of orders via personal automobile.

Work Environment 

This job operates in outdoor environments including inclement and hot weather, extreme-cold conditions in addition to limited office work. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, radio equipment, mobile phones, electronic tablets, multi-rotor small, unmanned aircraft and remote-control units.

 

Physical Demands 

While performing the duties of this job, the team member is regularly required to operate a vehicle and is required to speak and hear. The team member frequently is required to sit for extended periods of time; run; stand; walk; use hands, handle or feel; kneeling/crouching; and reach with hands and arms. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. 

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work 

While operating hours are usually during normal business hours the schedule could require some flexibility.  This position may require evening and weekend work. 

Travel 

Travel is local to the position location. Personal vehicles are used to complete necessary tasks.  Mileage is tracked via GPS during the work shift and reimbursed at the current rate published at gsa.gov.

Required Education and Experience 

  1. Possess a Part 107 Certificate to commercially operate sUAS. 
  2. Hold a 3rd Class FAA Medical
  3. Proficiency in standard Microsoft office software suite applications. 
  4. Good organization and communication skills, both oral and written, are essential to success in this position. Can develop and deliver clear, concise communications. 
  5. Must be able to work effectively in a collaborative, trusting, flexible, and safety focused environment. 
  6. Associate's degree or higher is preferred.
  7. Valid Driver’s License – Subject to driving record history check prior to employment. 
  8. Part 135 crew members will be subject to pre-employment and random DOT drug and alcohol screenings. 
  9. Part 135 crew members may be required to obtain a Class III FAA medical certificate. 
  10. Must be at least 21 years of age. (This is due to corporate insurance requirements.)

Preferred Education and Experience 

  1. Associate or bachelor’s Degree (or In-Progress). 
  2. One (1) to two (2) years’ experience working with RPA or UAS. 
  3. Part 61 pilot experience is a plus. 
  4. Management Experience
