Seasonal Mosquito Lab Technician

Minimum Requirements:

  • Equivalent to graduation from high school
  • 18 years of age or over
  • Must have a valid California driver's license, with a good driving record and be insurable with the District's insurance carrier.
  • Ability to pass a job-related pre-employment physical ability test.

Knowledge (or willingness to learn):

  • Identification, biology, ecology, and public health importance of mosquito species present in Alameda County;
  • Mosquito monitoring programs and equipment used to quantify mosquito abundance;
  • Cooperation with other agencies, officials, employees, and the public.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Place and retrieve mosquito traps;
  • Use taxonomic keys to identify mosquitoes to species;
  • Interact with community members in Alameda County;
  • Maintain mosquito colonies in the lab that are used for research and educational purposes;
  • Assist with research projects;
  • Follow District safety procedures and other regulatory requirements when using District equipment;
  • Prepare reports that record daily activities and laboratory data using computer software;
  • Safely operate and navigate District vehicles while performing work-related activities;
  • Work in diverse field environments across Alameda County, including urban landscapes, eastern county regions, and marshlands;
  • Performs related work as required.
