Job Description: Web Application Developer – Platform Development

Location: Detroit, Michigan

Position Overview

Asterisk Green Inc. is seeking a Web Application Developer to support development and maintenance of the company’s web platforms and related software tools. The role focuses on programming, implementing, and maintaining web applications that support internal operations and external client-facing systems.

 

The position is well suited for candidates interested in working across the web application lifecycle, including user interface implementation, backend programming, database integration, and deployment of web applications to cloud hosting environments.

 

The developer will contribute to development of the company’s web platform as well as web application projects undertaken for external partners and clients. Work will occur in collaboration with other engineers and contributors supporting web platform projects.

 

In addition to contributing directly to programming and implementation, the developer may assist in organizing programming tasks, coordinating development activities, and supporting communication among contributors working on shared web development projects. The developer may also serve as a technical point of contact for web development projects, communicating with project stakeholders and helping translate functional needs into programming tasks for contributing engineers.

 

This is an early-stage startup role that requires comfort working in a fast-moving environment, collaborating with contributors from different technical backgrounds, and taking initiative beyond a narrowly defined scope as project needs evolve.

 

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain web applications using modern web programming frameworks and technologies
  • Implement responsive user interfaces based on design specifications and content requirements
  • Write, test, and modify program code supporting website functionality and web applications
  • Develop backend APIs and server-side logic supporting web application functionality
  • Integrate databases and external services with web applications
  • Troubleshoot, debug, and improve performance of web applications
  • Support deployment and updates of web applications on cloud hosting platforms
  • Maintain version control and contribute to software updates using Git-based workflows
  • Collaborate with engineers and other contributors working on shared web development tasks
  • Assist in coordinating programming tasks among contributors working on web platform projects
  • Communicate with project stakeholders to clarify website functionality, content requirements, and web application features
  • Serve as a technical interface between project stakeholders and contributing engineers to help coordinate programming tasks and development updates.
  • Participate in project discussions with clients or partner organizations to support implementation of web applications and website functionality
  • Develop application code supporting integration of device data with web applications and monitoring or supervisory control systems
  • Contribute to documentation related to application setup, deployment processes, and maintenance
  • Collaborate with electrical, electronics, and software contributors to support integration of device data into web applications.
  • Contribute to grant applications, investment materials, and project documentation

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related field
  • Strong fundamentals in programming and web application development
  • Experience with web technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and modern frontend frameworks
  • Experience developing backend services using programming languages such as Python, Node.js, or similar
  • Experience working with relational or NoSQL databases
  • Familiarity with Git-based development workflows

Strongly Preferred

  • Master’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related discipline
  • Experience developing full-stack web applications involving frontend, backend, and database components
  • Experience deploying web applications to cloud hosting platforms such as AWS, Azure, or similar services
  • Familiarity with containerization tools or CI/CD pipelines
  • Exposure to startup environments, research labs, or early-stage technology development
