Job Title: Youth Programming Coordinator 

Number of Openings: 2-3

Hours/Week: 20-25 hours a week 

Wage/Salary: $800 summer stipend (For students with Federal Work Study as part of their financial aid package, an hourly wage may be available. Inquire when submitting your application for details.)

About TAC

The Textile Arts Center of Madison (TAC) is a nonprofit arts organization serving as a hub for the fiber arts community. TAC offers a wide variety of classes and workshops for adults and youth, exhibitions of contemporary fiber art, special events, community outreach programming, and serves as a center for creative use for textile art supplies.

 

About the Role

The Youth Programming Coordinator (YPC) will provide on-site support for TAC’s summer youth programming, including morning and afternoon session fiber art camps from June 15 through July 31, for youth ages 8-18. Camps includes focuses in crochet, knitting, quilting, fashion design, sewing, wool arts, printing, and dyeing. The YPC will serve as a public face for the organization during their shifts, meeting teaching artists, families and youth campers, facilitating camp set-up and clean-up, and supporting camp teaching artists during camp sessions (generally M-F, between the hours of 8:30am and 4:30pm). The YPC will also assist with administrative tasks related to TAC’s youth programming, which may include internal-, family-, and public-facing communications, social media, and more.

 

Responsibilities

 

Camp Support

  • Assist with classroom set-up of tables, chairs, and any equipment/tools/supplies, as needed for each camp.
  • Assist teaching artists with load-in and additional set-up, as needed. 
  • Greet camp participants, facilitate camper check-in process.
  • Provide support to teaching artists throughout camp, working directly with youth to help with techniques they’re learning that day.
  • At close of camp, facilitate camper check-out process.
  • At close of camp, work with teaching artist to ensure space is cleaned up. Assist teaching artists will load-out, as needed.

 

Administrative

  • Assist with internal-, family-, and public-facing camp-related processes and communications including those related to scheduling, marketing/advertising, social media, teaching artist paperwork, camper paperwork, family FAQ, check-in and in-camp experience, post-camp surveys, and family follow-up.

 

Note: Additional opportunities related to fiber art and/or youth programming could be included in the position if time allows and if candidate has existing related expertise. 

 

Skills and Qualifications

  • Experience working with youth. (Because this position interacts directly with youth campers, chosen candidates must complete a State of Wisconsin background check.)
  • General knowledge of and experience with a variety of fiber arts a plus. Experience with machine- and hand-sewing required.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant software.
  • Capable of working independently.
  • Ability to multitask effectively in an environment with many possible things happening at once.
