Aquatics Supervisor

Summary

In collaboration with the other members of the Aquatics management team, this position works directly under the supervision of the Aquatics Operations Manager and is responsible for the operations of the pool deck and related assignments, including, but not limited to, staff training, staff schedules, aquatics events and programming, and oversight of the pump room; supervises staff and provides a safe and enjoyable environment for the public. Responsible for the Aquatics Complex in the absence of the Aquatic Manager.

This position is supervised by the Aquatics Operations Manager


SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
This position supervises aquatics staff as assigned.

 

Essential Function Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for managing and supervising assigned areas/responsibilities of the Aquatic Complex.
  • Follows and implements all procedures and policies as described in the Palm Beach Gardens Aquatic Complex Employee Manual and the Recreation Department, as a whole. Provides input and suggestions on updates to policy and procedure as industry trends change.
  • Schedules, supervises and trains staff, including all Aquatics staff and other personnel as necessary. Acts as a training liaison for all Department staff on first aid/AED/CPR. 
  • Responsible for the keeping of accurate staff training records. 
  • Responsible for ensuring the daily maintenance of the pump room as it related to water chemistry and pool operations.
  • Supervises daily financial procedures, maintenance, and addresses safety issues.
  • Responsible for the safety of the facility, patrons and staff including regular and spontaneous inspections of deck equipment and pools in general
  • Manager on Duty when the pool is open for patron use.
  • Ensures that staff are completing facility maintenance tasks. Keeps accurate records of daily and weekly inspections and maintenance.
  • Works various hours including nights, weekends, holidays and special events, in coordination with the other members of the Aquatics management team.  
  • Prepares a variety of reports, under the direction of the manager, including daily and weekly financial statements, conduct, accident, and incident reports, tracking of participation numbers, and payroll.
  • Assists with the preparation of expenditures and revenue budgets for the aquatic facility.
  • Assists with various peripheral duties, including picking up supplies, ordering chemicals, setting up for special events, ordering uniforms, purchasing, as well as managing sponsorships and fundraisers.
  • Supervises and manages programs the Operations Manager is responsible for in his/her absence.  
  • Creates manuals and other projects, as needed. 
  • Creates and distributes flyers, posters, press release and signs, and works on other projects of a similar nature.
  • Responsible for any assigned emergency operation duties.
  • Performs any other duties as required or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Progressive responsibility in the management and supervision of staff and operations of an aquatic facility, including a working knowledge of water chemistry, and pump room operations.
  • Three years of experience in the aquatic field as a lifeguard; experience as a swim lesson instructor required
  • Lifeguard Training, Water Safety Instructor, CPR for the Professional Rescuer/AED, First Aid, and Administering Emergency O2 certifications through the American Red Cross; Must present originals or copies of both sides of all certifications.
  • Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) Certification within 3 months of hire.
  • Any related combination of education, training, and experience.

 

Special Qualifications/Preferences

  • Must obtain Certified Pool Operator, Aquatic Facility Operator or equivalent certification in the operation of pools from a recognized source in the industry within 6 months of hire. 
  • Lifeguard Instructor Trainer (LGIT) preferred, or the ability to be accepted into the academy within 12 months of hire. 
  • Must be able to pass the written and skills tests.
  • Valid State of Florida Driver’s License with a good driving record.
  • Ability to obtain a valid CDL-Class C license with a P endorsement may be required.
