RESPONSIBILITIES:
Conduct the day-to-day activities of assigned accounts while also providing support for the assigned account supervisor(s); general client correspondence; content creation (storytelling through various communications tools - press releases, feature stories, etc.); social media storytelling (copy development, working with the team on visuals to create authentic stories); provide strategic direction and execution of social media campaigns; pitch media and interact with media (draft pitches and media advisories); draft other materials needed to support activities (communications plans, fact sheets, etc.); client research; attend and actively participate in client meetings (in-person and virtual); participate in strategic creative brainstorming meetings; back up account supervisor when not present; and work with the creative and media and promotions department on executing client advertising campaigns.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Multicultural communications experience, particularly working with the African American consumer market is a plus.
2. Strong media relations/contacts with local, regional or national African American media.
3. Understanding of African American Consumer Market. Relationships with African American community leaders and organizations helpful.
4. Previous agency experience preferred.
5. Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Advertising or English.
6. Two to four years of experience in public relations or communications.
7. Advertising knowledge is a plus.
8. Proven ability to lead and manage multiple small or medium-sized projects simultaneously.
9. Strong written and oral communication skills.
10. Strong knowledge of digital and social media landscape, including emerging platforms and best practices.
11. Knowledge of Macintosh computers.
12. Must have own car and be available to do evening and weekend assignments.
13. Must be well organized, flexible, have the ability to manage multiple tasks, possess adequate time management skills, self-starter, ambitious, analytical, critical thinker, active listener and goal-oriented.
14. Ability to work with diverse communities.
15. Passion for the craft of communicating messages that produce results for the firm’s clients.
16. Ability to work as a team player.
