JOB DESCRIPTION FOR PASTOR BETHLEHEM CHRISTIAN CHURCH
Bethlehem Chris<an Church Mission Statement:
To be a lifelong source of spiritual guidance through public worship and Chris<an instruc<on; to
be a witness to God’s saving grace; and to express God’s love throughout the community and
the world.
Job Responsibili<es:
▪ Preparing and delivering sermons. Biblical insight and discernment with a commitment to
scripture as final authority.
▪ Plan and lead worship services for the congrega<on, including the celebra<on of ordinances
(Sacraments of bap<sm and Holy Communion) of the church.
▪ Oversee, direct and guide the spiritual growth of the membership, including the spiritual
development and growth of the youth of the church.
▪ Regularly call on the sick and shut-in.
▪ Officiate at weddings, funerals and bap<sms.
▪ Perform administra<ve du<es related to office, staff, and property necessary in coordina<on
of the ongoing life and ministry of the church.
▪ To provide counseling as needed and as <me allows.
▪ Serve as a resource person for church groups.
▪ Work with the various boards and commiYees, as <me allows to assist them in performing
their assigned tasks.
▪ Highly ra<onal and approachable.
▪ Collabora<ng with choir leaders to integrate music into services and assis<ng with
community outreach.
▪ Serve as Ex Officio Member to all church boards and commiYees.
▪ AYend Church Council, Church Conference, Deacon Board and Board of Chris<an Educa<on
mee<ngs.
▪ Follow the safety procedures of the church.
Job Qualifica<ons
▪ Master’s Degree in Divinity is preferred or equivalent degree from an accredited seminary
school.
Expecta<ons and Accountability
▪ Strong moral character to give a good religious example to the congrega<on.
▪ Ability to keep informa<on private when working with congrega<on members to beYer
counsel and comfort church members in <mes of crisis; respect a congrega<on member’s
privacy during and a\er pastoral counseling.
▪ Background check will be required prior to hire: reference checks will be conducted. Upon
selec<on and prior to signing a contract, you will be asked to provide personal, professional
and ministry-related references.
▪ Reports to Deacon Board▪ An annual review (or exit interview) will be conducted each June. This review will serve as a
basis for offering renewal of your contract.
▪ As a leader and representa<ve of BCC, there should be evidence of con<nued growth in
your personal rela<onship with Christ, a maintaining the highest standards of integrity as a
leader. Regular corporate church worship service aYendance is expected, as well as
promo<ng the core values and the mission of the church on a personal level.
