VanSant Conservation Intern

The Southeastern Trust for Parks and Land is pleased to announce the VanSant Conservation 
Internship for Summer 2026. Named in honor of Vic VanSant, wildlife biologist, and longtime 
supporter, mentor, and collaborator with the SE Trust, this position works with and reports directly
to the Executive Director and will consist of both field-based and office-based work. This position is 
an excellent opportunity to gain practical, hands-on experience with conservation, work as part of a 
team, network with organizational partners, and gain valuable skills to help forward your career in 
conservation and non-profit work. 
This position also provides opportunities to learn about using GIS and AI in conservation, native and 
non-native species identification, invasive species control, power equipment use, equipment 
management, monitoring protocols on conserved properties, and more. 
About the SE Trust: The SE Trust is a 501-C-3 non-profit organization, founded in 2012, whose 
mission is to make use of natural land to foster natural land conservation; environmental 
stewardship; science education and research; and public recreation for the benefit of individuals 
and communities. We have over 50 properties in Georgia, North Carolina, and Tennessee, including

Location: Based at SE Trust offices in Jasper, GA
Duration: Up to 4 months in Summer 2026: mid-May to mid-August (dates negotiable)
Requirements: 
- Enthusiasm for environmental conservation and land management.
- Currently pursuing a degree or recent graduate in a related field, such as environmental 
science, ecology, biology, forestry, or a similar discipline.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in computer applications (spreadsheets, word processing), GIS skills a plus.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Physically fit (walk long distances over uneven terrain and lift/ carry up to 40lbs.) and a 
willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions including heat, rain, with bugs.
Camping opportunities may be available. 
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Willingness to adhere to safety protocols and wear appropriate PPE. 
Responsibilities:
- Invasive species control
- Conservation monitoring, data management, and reporting
- Conducting plant and animal surveys
- Property maintenance and habitat restoration
- Engaging in educational outreach activities
- Possible presentation of your experience at a local event
- Assist with social media and other marketing opportunities
Compensation:
This is a paid internship offering $20 per hour for up to 30 hours per week. While some weekend 
work and overnight travel may be required, we strive to maintain a balanced schedule. Please note 
that housing and transportation are not provided, and candidates should be conveniently located 
near Jasper, GA or the north metro Atlanta area.
