GIS Basics Summer 2026 Remote Intern
Key responsibilities:
TLT-Tomorrow’s Leaders today is currently looking for applicants to serve as an Entry-Level GIS Interns. This role is ideal for students looking to apply spatial analysis and cartographic design to real-world non-profit community resource mapping.
***Applicants must reside in Texas, no access to any part of the internship outside of Texas available. Work authorization required.
Work Schedule:
MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS:
One-Hour long virtual weekly team meeting
Meeting Options: Tues 1030am, Tues 1200pm, Tues 130pm and Tues 300PM
AND
Bi-weekly position specific virtual coaching sessions on Thursdays, held under the supervision of a supervisor.
May 26th to July 28th, check your schedule prior to applying.
Work hours are flexible, but you must commit to working 10-20 hours per week.
Responsibilities will include:
-Execute spatial queries and geographic analysis for community service requests.
-Design thematic maps and data visualizations for stakeholder presentations.
-Manage geodatabase integrity by creating, modifying, and auditing geographic features.
-Collect, process, and maintain GPS data as needed for TLT and GIS projects.
-Translate spatial data into actionable insights for other TLT departments.
Qualifications:
-Enrolled in a Geography, Urban Planning, or Geospatial Technology program.
-Interest in Geospatial Information Systems (e.g., ArcGIS Online, QGIS, or Google Earth Engine)
-Commitment to advancing underserved adolescents, ages 13-25 across Texas
-Curiosity about emerging research and advocacy in the youth development space -Strong writing skills
-Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
-Strong attention to detail and a self-driven desire to develop and drive value in the organization
About this internship program
This internship is designed to be both educational and practical. In this internship program, the intern will learn how to take skills they have acquired in school or former job experiences and apply them in a professional setting. They will gain a better understanding of the role they can play in a non-profit setting and be better prepared to work in the arena of geospatial analysis and community resource mapping.
The TLT- Leading Leaders Intern program consists of a unique opportunity to offer real world experience in multiple disciplines that bring to life the knowledge gained in academics. The TLT Leading Leaders Intern Program aims to provide Interns with meaningful experience and an opportunity to explore and expand upon their skills and knowledge, while developing leadership qualities and skills with hands-on curriculum-based opportunities. These positions are all REMOTE which allows us to serve many young adults, in many locations, and inclusive to all, across Texas. Experience is not required. Engagement with business, civic and community leaders aligned with the participant’s career choice leads to more meaningful connections.

This is an unpaid, curriculum-based internship. We encourage applicants to coordinate with school advisors for academic credit or career centers for external stipends
