Overview
The ASIC Layout Mask Design Intern supports the development of multi‑dimensional layouts and detailed drawings for uncooled bolometers and cooled InSb detector devices. Using CAD tools, this role prepares manufacturing‑ready stepper reticles, performs verification checks, and produces documentation aligned with quality standards.
Responsibilities
Create detector mask layouts from ROIC drawings and process engineering specifications using CAD tools.
Collaborate with ROIC design engineers, detector engineers, process teams, and packaging teams; prepare reports and participate in design reviews.
Translate detector manufacturing process steps into reticle layers for wafer fabrication.
Design detectors that meet backend processing and packaging requirements.
Interface with suppliers: generate and release GDS files, prepare mask orders and purchase requisitions, and coordinate reticle procurement.
Support cell and path layout for ROIC wafer manufacturing.
Perform DRC and LVL design verification to ensure compliance with wafer manufacturing rules and version specifications.
Release and maintain design documentation in accordance with ISO quality system requirements.
Handle Export‑Controlled Information responsibly and follow all GTC protocols.
Qualifications
Proficiency with CAD layout tools for building layered geometries, routing paths, and placing cells.
Strong attention to detail and ability to follow structured design documentation processes.
Effective collaboration and teamwork skills to support cross‑functional project goals.
Strong verbal communication skills for team interactions and customer design reviews.
Clear written communication skills for preparing technical presentations and documentation.
Commitment to continuous learning of new tools, methodologies, and layout techniques.
Strong organizational and scheduling skills to meet detailed design processes, program schedules, and project milestones.
Ability to make sound decisions based on analysis of alternatives, risks, and consequences.
Familiarity with ISO 9001 quality systems.
Preferred Skills
1–2 years of related experience.
Associate of Arts or Science degree, or equivalent training.
Additional Requirements
Must be a U.S. Person (U.S. Citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident).
Must be able to work part‑time during the spring and full‑time for at least 7 weeks during the summer.
English proficiency is required due to the collaborative nature of the internship program.
