Systems Engineering Intern

Position Description: 

The Systems Engineering Intern will assist in designing, developing, and implementing SCADA and Controls systems for renewable energy and energy storage projects. This role offers exposure to modern engineering techniques, communication protocols, and project management, fostering hands-on learning in a dynamic and supportive environment. The intern will work under the guidance of senior engineers to contribute to ongoing projects and support key deliverables.

 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Assist in the implementation of network integration for small-to-large scale renewable energy sites. 
  • Assist in programming and commissioning SCADA and control systems components such as RTACs, PLCs, HMIs, and historians. 
  • Support the creation and maintenance of technical documentation, including system drawings.
  • Collaborate with team members to integrate SCADA/Controls Cloud-based solutions into project workflows. 
  • Troubleshoot issues on existing projects, assisting in problem resolution with senior engineers. 
  • Gain exposure to industry-standard communication protocols like Modbus and OPC-UA/DA. 
  • Learn and apply best practices for operational technology (OT) security and reliability. 
  • Participate in internal technical meetings and provide status updates on assigned tasks. 

 

Preferred Position Qualifications: 

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, or Computer Science preferred) or a related field. 
  • Basic programming knowledge in languages like Python, Java, or Structured Text (IEC61131). 
  • Familiarity with SCADA platforms (e.g., Inductive Automation Ignition) is a plus. 
  • Strong interest in renewable energy, energy storage, and modern control systems. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Physical Demands & Working Conditions:

  • Vision/Hearing: Ability to understand a variety of instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagram, or schedule form. 
  • Safety: Ability to understand and communicate safety precautions when necessary.
