Internship Projects/Tasks/Assignments
1. Social Media Support
- Assist in drafting engaging posts for platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter
- Curate photos and videos to accompany content
- Monitor engagement and track performance metrics
2. Newsletter and Email Marketing
- Help write and format content for monthly newsletters and email blasts
- Create targeted messaging for museum events, programs, and membership updates
- Maintain and update email distribution lists
3. Website Updates
- Assist with updating website content including program pages, event listings, and blog posts
- Ensure information is current and visually engaging
4. Event Promotion
- Design flyers, posters, and digital assets for upcoming events and programs
- Draft press releases or community calendar submissions
5. Photography and Content Capture
- Take candid and posed photos during museum programs and events
- Organize and archive media files for future use
6. Brand and Voice Consistency
- Help ensure all external messaging aligns with the museum’s tone, mission, and visual brand
- Review and edit materials for clarity, grammar, and style
7. Communications Strategy
- Participate in brainstorming sessions for creative campaigns and messaging
- Research trends in nonprofit and museum communications to help inform strategy
- Other front desk/play guide duties as assigned

- Best practices for content creation, scheduling, and engagement across platforms

- Strategies for promoting events, programs, and initiatives to various audiences
- Experience drafting media materials such as press releases and outreach emails
4. Website Content Management
- Updating and maintaining content on web platforms
- Understanding user experience and readability for online materials
5. Photography and Media Organization
- Capturing high-quality images to support storytelling
- Organizing and managing digital media assets
6. Time Management & Prioritization
- Balancing multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Creating and following content calendars and project timelines
7. Collaboration and Professionalism
- Working with staff, partners, and the public in a team-based setting
- Gaining confidence in representing a mission-driven organization
Previous Skills Intern Would Need to be Successful
- Interest in Child Development or Education: A foundational understanding or strong interest in how children learn and grow.
- Communication Skills: Comfort interacting with young children, families, and museum staff; ability to present ideas clearly and enthusiastically.
- Collaboration and Teamwork: Willingness to work closely with mentors, staff, and other interns in a supportive, team-based environment.
- Organization and Time Management: Ability to plan, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines when developing and delivering programming.
- Flexibility and Problem Solving: Openness to feedback and readiness to adjust plans based on real-time observations and needs.
